RADV audit schedule 2027: PY 2022 to PY 2025 on one timeline

Short answer: CMS publishes the month it intends to start each payment year's RADV audits. Three started in 2026 (PY 2020, 2021, 2024), three more are planned through May 2027 (PY 2023, 2022, 2025) [1], and the PY 2024 instructions show what each will ask for and when [2]. Dates are CMS's; the reading is for a provider group.

What a provider group does with this calendar

The group holds the records; every date becomes a wave of requests

Requests arrive two to six weeks after each initiation date. Response time and note quality decide whether the HCC is confirmed.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What payment years are open or planned on the CMS RADV schedule?

PY 2020 (started March 20, 2026), PY 2021 (May 29, 2026) and PY 2024 (August 28, 2026) are open. PY 2023 is planned for November 2026, PY 2022 for January to February 2027 and PY 2025 for April to May 2027. CMS says the dates are subject to change.

How long is the record submission window?

For PY 2024 it opened September 18, 2026 and closes February 5, 2027, about 20 weeks, with hardship exception requests due February 19, 2027. CMS has not published the windows for the later audits.

Why is PY 2022 after PY 2024 on the schedule?

CMS has not said. The published schedule simply lists PY 2024 for August 2026, PY 2023 for November 2026 and PY 2022 for January to February 2027, so plans and providers should expect overlapping audits.

Will PY 2022 findings be extrapolated?

Unknown. The 2023 rule authorizing extrapolation from PY 2018 was vacated in 2025 and is under appeal. For PY 2024 CMS is collecting sampled-enrollee amounts and reserving extrapolation if legally permissible; it has not published the PY 2022 methods yet.
