Antepartum and postpartum
| Category | What the software does | What the clinician does |
|---|---|---|
| Assistive | Provides clinically relevant data without deriving a parameter or generating an interpretation | Interprets and reports; the output requires physician or QHP interpretation |
| Augmentative | Produces a quantitative or categorical parameter that is qualitatively different from the input | Interaction optional; physician work typically captured by existing codes such as E/M |
| Autonomous (Levels I to III) | Derives parameters and independently generates clinically meaningful interpretations without concurrent physician or QHP involvement | Level I decides whether to implement; Level II can stop the action; Level III oversees and reviews performance |
AMA, CPT Appendix S [3]
Many AI services are Category III codes with no national Medicare value: payer policy before charge; see the AI codes explainer. Also proposed for January 1: $32.84 per RVU (down 1.68 percent) and 50 percent on every same-day service but the most expensive when an office E/M and a global share a date [4]: the same-day E/M insight.
Our autonomous coding rule packs are being rebuilt against CPT 2027, maternity and hernia families in review-only mode through January. The ASC engine is still a pilot: 79.5 to 86.1 percent on one client's QA, CPT 95.3 percent, secondary diagnoses 53.5 percent, so we publish the split, not one number. How the rule library refreshes: the coding engine page.
January 1, 2027. The AMA released the code set on September 9, 2026 with 299 new codes, 74 revisions and 80 deletions. Deleted codes reject on 2027 dates of service, so charge master end-dating has to be done in December.
59050, 59400, 59409, 59410, 59425, 59426, 59430, 59510, 59514, 59515, 59525, 59610, 59612, 59614, 59618, 59620 and 59622. Twelve new codes replace them and antepartum and postpartum care are reported per encounter with E/M codes.
43 AI-related codes, including 10 added for 2027. They follow the Appendix S taxonomy of assistive, augmentative and autonomous services, which determines whether the software work is reported separately or captured in the physician's existing codes.
Checked October 25, 2026. Rules change; confirm against the source before relying on them. Items marked proposed are not final until the final rule publishes.
We join your code list to the 453 changes, end-date the deletions, map the replacements and hand back an owner list by system before December.
