If UnitedHealthcare or Cigna appear in your S9083 remittance list, you have found rework that a payer profile change ends today.
No. Policy 2026R0108A, anniversary review August 1, 2026, says UnitedHealthcare will not reimburse S9083 or S9088 under any Commercial or Individual Exchange plan: S9083 is a global code without encounter level specificity, S9088 is informational. It asks for the E/M and procedure codes that describe the service, plus a place of service code.
No. Cigna policy R24, last updated June 4, 2026, says Cigna does not reimburse S9083 for urgent care global fee or S9088 for urgent care services. Its history table dates the professional S9083 denial to October 21, 2017.
Medicare does not: S9083 and S9088 carry status indicator I. Some regional commercial plans and Medicaid managed care contracts pay a global urgent care rate on S9083; for those payers the single global line is correct. The answer lives in each contract's fee schedule and belongs in the payer profile.
